William Walter Helm, beloved husband, father, and Papaw, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2024, in New Albany, Indiana. He was born February 7, 1961 to Herbert and Shirley Helm in Louisville, Kentucky. Known for his warm heart and infectious laughter, William leaves behind a legacy of love and joy.
William found immense satisfaction in his work, particularly his passion for installing fences and tinkering with cars. But his greatest joy came from sharing precious moments and snack cakes with his grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure.
A natural storyteller, William captivated listeners with tales from his youth, regaling them with adventures and anecdotes. He found solace in the simplicity of old westerns, game shows, and anything related to cars, enriching his life with timeless entertainment.
William's affable nature knew no bounds; he effortlessly connected with everyone he met, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. His love for life was evident in his zest for adventure, whether attending concerts, trying his luck at the casino, or indulging in his favorite pastime of smoking pot, a habit he proudly replaced after quitting cigarettes at the age of 28.
In William's departure, we mourn the loss of a cherished husband, father, and friend, but find comfort in the countless memories he leaves behind. His laughter, kindness, and unwavering spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
William is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Shirley Helm; and 2 sisters.
Left to cherish his memory, William is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Helm; son, Josh Helm (Daisy); his grandchildren, Krysten Helm, Kayden Helm, Amelia Mabry, Chase Rodzankas, and Theodore Hummel; 4 siblings; and numerous nieces and nephews.
