Thomas Packer Obituary

Thomas Anthony Packer, 64, of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on December 24,
2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. Affectionately known as Tommy by all who knew him, was born
on January 30, 1960, in Mobile, Alabama to John Wesley Packer, Sr. and Helen M. Barney. As a
small child, Tommy moved with his parents to Jeffersonville, Indiana. At an early age, Tommy
professed his faith in Christ and was baptized at Gilt Edge Baptist Church.
Tommy loved sports and played football at Parkview Middle School before graduating from
Jeffersonville High School. He was a good student but quickly became known as a “knock-out
artist” to all whom attempted to bully him. Tommy continued to hold this title into adulthood as
he was quick to react and ask questions later. To his sons, he was “Superman,” the toughest man
on the planet and not afraid of anything.
Tommy loved sports and was a passionate supporter and ambassador for the University of
Louisville. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan and UofL Cardinals fan, he loved cheering for his teams
and inspiring others with his enthusiasm. You couldn’t convince him that his teams weren’t the
best teams to ever play the sport. His love for sports extended to coaching, where he poured his
energy and heart into guiding athletes in a variety of sports, including basketball and football.
When he no longer officially coached, you could still catch him on the sidelines unofficially
coaching anyway.
A man with a wanderlust spirit, Tommy found joy in traveling, exploring new places, and was
always down for a road trip. He cherished every moment spent with his family, creating
countless memories that will be forever treasured. He loved his family immensely and even
when at odds with loved ones, everyone knew that if they needed him, he would be ready,
willing, and able to be right there, in any way he could. He still might not talk to you afterwards,
but if you needed him, he was there.
Tommy was married to the late Michele Reneé Packer (née Collins), for more than 35 years until
her passing in May 2024. To their union, two sons, Thomas Packer, Jr. and Terrence Packer were
born.
Tommy’s legacy of love, passion, and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him. In
addition to his parents, Helen M. Barney and JW Packer, Sr., Tommy was preceded in death by
his wife, Michele Packer; brother, John Wesley Packer, Jr.; and uncle, Alfred Stallworth.
Tommy is survived by his loving sons, L. Antwan Thompson, Thomas Packer Jr., and Terrence
Packer; brothers, Herbert Packer (Margaret), Carl Packer, Tyrone Packer; sisters, Sandra Tiller,
Doris Packer, and Bernadette Brown; 5 grandchildren, Autumn Thompson, Aniston Thompson,
Joshua Varble, Mariah Robinson, Marissa Robinson; his aunt Carlean Stallworth; along with a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friend, Dion Toogood whom he loved like a
son.
