Stephen Rinker Obituary

Stephen Wayne Rinker, age 66 of Smithfield, Kentucky, passed away at his home in Henry County on Sunday, February 15, 2026. A devoted husband, proud father, grandfather, brother, and a man who believed deeply in the value of honest work and simple joys, Stephen leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering dedication to those he cherished most.

Born to the late Marvin & Barbara (Bullington) Rinker, Stephen built his life with his hands and his heart. A skilled carpenter for many years, he worked in road construction throughout the tri-state area, helping shape the very ground people traveled each day. He took pride in hard work and never shied away from a long day, always believing that providing for and caring for his family was one of life’s greatest callings.  He attended Smithfield Baptist Church.

Stephen felt most at home outdoors, where the sun was warm and the work was honest. He loved tending to his garden, operating heavy equipment, and spending peaceful hours hunting and fishing. Whether he was canning fresh goods, firing up the grill for a day of Bar-B-Q, or making his beloved homemade pizzas to share with friends and family, Stephen’s greatest happiness came from bringing people together. He enjoyed playing Bingo, visiting the casino, and embracing life’s simple pleasures with a warm smile and easy laughter.

Above all, Stephen worked every single day to make sure his family knew they were loved, supported, and cared for. His quiet strength, generous spirit, and dependable presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Michelle (Potts) Gallo Rinker; his sons, Will Rinker (Heather) of Shepherdsville and Waylon Rinker of Seymour; daughters, Rachel Brook Gallo and Hillary Dean Gallo; and brother, David Rinker (Rhonda) of Elizabeth; sister, Vicky Rinker of New Albany.  He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren — Dillian, Jaydian, Isabella, Savanna, Alexius, Myla, Bryson, and Brooklyn, and great-grandchildren, Renesmae & Raelynn.  Stephen also had a special place in his heart for the sweet kittens he adored: Angel Boy “Flea Bag,” Zena, and Lilly, who brought him comfort and companionship.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to his lifelong friends who stood faithfully by his side: Johnnie Watson, Steve Coyle, Jim Miller, Barry Card, Carl Johnson, Stevie Lanham, and Kevin Speth. Their friendship meant the world to him.

Funeral services will be held at 7 PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Legacy Funeral Center, Scott Chapel (921 Main Street in Jeffersonville), officiated by Pastor Peter Phillips of Smithfield Baptist Church. Friends may visit from 2:00 PM until the time of service at 7:00 PM.

Stephen will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his love of the outdoors, and the deep, steady love he gave so freely to family and friends. His life was built on devotion, kindness, and care — a foundation that will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
