Roy William Gammons, age 56, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on April 22, 2026, after a long illness. Born on October 4, 1969, Roy was a lifelong resident of the Portland neighborhood—a true Portland man through and through who took pride in his roots and community.
Roy is survived by his wife, Angela Gammons; his mother, Janet Snow; his children, Michael Anthony Gammons, Bryan Neal Gammons (Lilly), and Jenna Nicole Gammons; and his cherished grandchildren, Carleigh, Cory, and Aubrey. He is also survived by his brothers, John Gammons (Lynn), Alan Ray Snow, Bobby Snow (Lynn), and Jason Snow (Nancy); his uncles, Buddy and Tubby (Karen); and a large extended family including his nieces and nephews, Jessica Lynn, John John, BJ, Jason, Jr., Bobby, Corey, Suzanne, December, Matthew, Leslea, Brayden, and Kirstan, along with several great-nieces and nephews. Roy shared a special bond with his cousins, who were like best friends, Beverly Messick and Chris Hancock.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Alan Snow; his grandmother, Clarice Messick; his uncles, Duck, Jimmy, and Bobby; his close friends, John Bishop, Larry Lathem and Dale Capito; and his beloved blue nose pitbull, Smokey Joe.
Roy had a deep love for life and the things that brought him joy. He was a devoted sports fan who enjoyed basketball, football, and baseball, and he was a passionate supporter of the University of Kentucky Wildcats. He loved spending time near the water and was happiest when he could enjoy it, often reluctant to leave. Music was another great passion, especially the sounds of legendary bass players like Gene Simmons of KISS and the iconic bands of the 1980s—so much so that he drew inspiration from them when naming his children. He was also an avid horror movie enthusiast.
A hardworking man, Roy dedicated himself to carpentry and took great pride in working with his hands and creating with skill and care. He also had a love for muscle cars and motorcycles, with a special fondness for the Ford Mustang.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Legacy Funeral Center – Schoppenhorst Chapel, 1832 West Market Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40203, and again on Monday, May 4, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
The family has chosen cremation to follow.
Roy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
