Rodney Leroy McClure, 86, of Jeffersonville, IN passed away on September 2, 2024.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville, IN, 47130, with funeral services to follow within the Legacy Funeral Center - Scott Chapel.
Rodney was born on July 3, 1938 in Riddle, IN to the late Omer Commodore and Fern Opal (Breeden) McClure. He was a loving husband, companion, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and his entire family felt blessed to have him in their lives. He was a 1956 graduate of New Albany High School and in July 1958 enlisted in the United States Army. As a member of the 101st Airborne Division, while based at Ft. Campbell, KY, he served abroad for one year in Germany. Upon leaving the military he eventually found his way to the Pennsylvania Railroad where he worked in various positions within the rail industry, until he eventually retired from Conrail in the mid-1980's. Upon retiring from the railroad, he was able to spend more of his free time focusing on his favorite pastimes. As an avid outdoorsman he loved spending his free time hunting, fishing and boating. He was also a huge sports fan, constantly cheering for his Indiana Hoosiers and anyone who played against the Kentucky Wildcats. Above those hobbies, his favorite pastime was spent with his wife, daughter and grandchildren at their Patoka Lake camp.
Rodney was married to his high-school sweetheart and loving wife, Lydia Sue Combs for 63 years until her passing in 2021. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Lee McClure; sons, Scott Anthony McClure (Lauren) and Damon Shawn McClure (Rebecca); his siblings, William McClure (Phyllis), Opal (Durrett) Gravitt, Dan Gravitt (Robin), and Mary (Burchett) Gravitt (Greg); grandchildren, Brenna (Justin), Caitlin (Brad), Kelsey, Shade (Alexander), Lydia, Zenor, Rodney and Philip; and great-grandchildren, Bryton, Keslyn, Clark, Nolan, Annabelle, Lennon, Onyx and Silas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of Clark-Floyd, Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral services.
