Richard Andre Hatten Towns, age 57, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2025. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, Richard proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army in the 702nd Airborne Division with the 85th Battalion out of Ft. Meade, Maryland before continuing a life of service and leadership in the civilian world.
Following his military service, Richard became a respected clerk and trainer for Kroger in Clarksville, Indiana, where he quickly became a beloved figure among staff and customers alike. Known for his larger-than-life personality, warm spirit, and contagious smile, Richard had a gift for making everyone around him feel seen and valued. Whether training new team members or greeting familiar faces in the aisles, he left a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his father, Prentice Towns; nephew, Quincy Anthony Beauchamp; and niece, Shauntell Jackson.
Richard is survived by his devoted mother, Calmer Towns; loving sisters, Patriece Towns (Anthony) and Elicia Hopkins-Smith (Kier); and a cherished group of nieces and nephews: Shaquille Towns, Demetria Towns, Denzel Towns-Beauchamp, Kaylea Beauchamp, Josiah Hopkins-Smith, Silver Hopkins-Smith, Tamara Hopkins-Smith, and Solomon Hopkins-Smith. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss his vibrant presence deeply.
Visitation will be held 2-7 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main Street - Jeffersonville. Funeral services in his honor will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2025, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Eastern Cemetery.
Richard’s legacy of joy, dedication, and love for his family and community will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
