Richard Lee Mattingly, Sr., age 80, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026. He was born on May 31, 1945, in Lebanon, Kentucky, to the late Francis Lee Mattingly and Georgia Lay Mattingly.
Richard was united in marriage to Konita Jane Proctor Mattingly, with whom he shared over sixty years of love and devotion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Lee Mattingly and Georgia Lay Mattingly; his son, Rodney Lee Mattingly; four angel babies; sons-in-law Albert Miller and Leon Farris, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Alana Mattingly; his brothers, Tommy Mattingly, James Mattingly, and Phillip Mattingly; and his sisters, Ann Bowman and Virginia Wayne.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Konita Jane Mattingly; his children, Frances Miller, Rebecca Lynn Mattingly (Paul Devine), Sheila Marie Farris, Ronda Kay Mattingly (Don Haddox), and Richard Lee Mattingly, Jr.; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He is also survived by his brother, Billy Alvey; his sisters, Mary Alice Kennedy and Nancy Proctor; a close friend, Rodney Lee Schmitt; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Richard was a master mechanic, retiring from Shell Gas and Service. He was a tinker who loved fixing things for people. Richard loved playing horseshoes and was very competitive at it. He was found daily hanging out under the shade tree drinking a glass of water. As a wonderful musician, he shared his art with others, playing his beloved Fender guitar.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Legacy Funeral Center – Schoppenhorst Chapel, located at 1832 West Market Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40203.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Richard will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his enduring strength, and the legacy he leaves through generations who will cherish his memory.
