Rev. Charlie Joseph Petrie, Jr., age 79, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. A devoted servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, Charlie dedicated his life to sharing The Gospel, whether in the mission fields of Japan or within his beloved Southern Indiana community. His unwavering faith, compassionate spirit, and deep love for others left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Charlie found great joy in serving at Christ Gospel Church, where he was a pillar of faith, encouragement, and unwavering dedication. Whether preaching, teaching, or simply offering a kind word, his love for the Lord shone brightly in every aspect of his life. He also ministered to those in local nursing homes, ensuring that no soul felt forgotten or unloved. His heart for missions knew no bounds, and he lived out the Great Commission with humility and grace.
In addition to his ministry, Charlie was a hardworking man and a retiree from the Indiana Laborers Union. He was a steadfast provider and a friend to many, known for his kindness, wisdom, and servant’s heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Petrie; parents, Charles Sr. and Francis Petrie; siblings, Faith Collins, Joan Hayes, Patricia Dole, Christine Petrie, Danny Petrie, Steven Petrie, and Michael Petrie.
Survivors include his sister, Ethel Dangerfield; friends and caretakers, David and Rebecca Valois; and numerous special nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville. Additional visitation will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at Christ Gospel Church, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate his life and legacy. He will be laid to rest at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
Rev. Charlie Joseph Petrie, Jr. leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and selfless service to the Kingdom of God. Though he will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing he has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
