Phillip Lawrence Mattingly, 70, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on November 26, 1950 to the late Francis and Georgia Mattingly in Lebanon, Kentucky. Lawrence was a hustler and could always find a way to make a dollar. He never met a stranger and never had a problem with anyone. Lawrence loved telling stories and going “junkin” to find his next treasure. He was a man’s man and loved taking care of his baby girl. In his spare time, Lawrence could be found watching old TV shows like Gun Smoke or playing cards. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Francis and Georgia Mattingly, Lawrence was preceded in death by his little buddy, Wolf Jack.
Left to cherish his memory, Lawrence leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia Mattingly; 5 sons, Phillip Mattingly Jr. (Elizabeth), Gary Lee Mattingly Sr. (Tracy), Stacey Mattingly Sr. (Lisa), Tracey Mattingly (Stephanie) and Edgar Mattingly Sr. (Shelley); 3 siblings, Richard Lee Mattingly (Dimples), Mary Alice Kennedy (David), and Nancy Proctor; 16 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; best friend, Perry Garner; and a host of extended family and friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Phillip Lawrence Mattingly will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Legacy Funeral Center – Schoppenhorst Chapel, 1832 W. Market St., Louisville, KY 40203. Visitation will be held from 2 PM to 8 PM on Friday, August 27 and prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial at Calvary Cemetery will follow the funeral service.
