Michael James Harrod, 78, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 15, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Henry and June Harrod.
Michael was a devoted Christian who dedicated his life to service and creativity. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and proudly served as the Chief of Police for Jeffersonville, Indiana, where he devoted himself to protecting and serving the community for many years. His leadership, commitment, and bravery left a lasting impact on the lives of many. After retiring from law enforcement, Michael’s legacy of service continued through his love for his family and his passion for the arts.
A gifted artist, Michael had a remarkable talent for sculpting and painting, skills that brought beauty to his life and the lives of those who experienced his work. His artistic creations were a reflection of his keen eye and his deep appreciation for the world around him.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death his wife, Gayle Harrod; brothers, Kelly and Lloyd Harrod. He is survived by a daughter, Meredith Nevitt(Jason); son Jon Harrod (Erica) Ricketts Harrod: sister, Lynda Harrod; brothers, John Harrod, Tony Harrod; along with 3 granddaughters, Dyllyn, Darci, Devin Nevitt; grandson, Michael Alec Harrod.
There will be a visitation held on Monday, April 14, 2025 from 10-1:30pm with service to follow at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
