Michael Wayne Baker Sr., 69, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully at his home on January 6, 2024. Born on July 14, 1954, in Louisville, KY, he was the son of Joseph William Baker and Rebecca Ann (Lightfoot) Bronger. Michael was a proud UofL Cardinal and Ravens fan, showcasing his unwavering support for his favorite teams throughout the years. A man of simple pleasures, he found joy in the tranquility of fishing and the excitement of attending auctions. Known for his laidback and easygoing demeanor, Michael's true passions emerged when he was on the water with a fishing rod in hand or exploring the treasures at local auctions. Professionally, Michael dedicated himself to the art of hanging drywall, showcasing his skill and craftsmanship in every project he undertook. His dedication and hard work left a lasting impact on those who witnessed his handiwork. A man of strong convictions, Michael's calm exterior belied a fierce determination that surfaced when provoked. His steadfast nature earned him the respect of those who knew him well. Family meant the world to Michael, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His love extended beyond blood ties, embracing friends and acquaintances alike. In his leisure time, he found solace in the soulful melodies of country music, with Johnny Cash holding a special place in his heart. A dream unfulfilled, Michael always harbored a desire to gaze upon the vastness of the ocean, a wish that remains a poignant reminder of the adventures he hoped to embark upon. Michael Wayne Baker Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by family, friends, and all who were touched by his warmth and kindness. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addtion to his parents, Joseph Baker and Rebecca Bronger, Michael is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph William Baker; and a nephew, Chris Douglas Hale.
Left to cherish his memory, Michael leaves behind 2 sons, Michael Wayne Baker Jr., and Robert Anthony Baker; ex-wife, Delois Baker; sister, Deborah Baker; daughter he never had, Rebecca Hale; nephew, Rocky Baker; several grandchildren; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Michael Wayne Baker Sr. will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Legacy Funeral Center - Schoppenhorst Chapel, 1832 W. Market Street, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 7 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service.
