Maurice Albert “Marty” Hickerson, Jr., age 67, of Jeffersonville, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026.

Born in Jeffersonville to the late Dolores Jean (Brown) and Maurice A. Hickerson, Sr., Marty grew up in Louisville and was a proud 1977 graduate of Stuart High School. He was baptized at Green Street Baptist Church and later courageously served his country in the United States Army.

Marty was one of those people who could surprise you with just how many gifts he had. He had a brilliant mind for numbers and could memorize long account numbers with an ease that seemed almost magical. But numbers weren't his only talent. Marty was also a gifted artist who loved to draw, creating beautiful pictures for family and friends simply because he enjoyed making something special for someone else.

Music was another big part of Marty’s life. He was a true lifelong music lover and could often be found jammin’ to old-school R&B, with the Temptations and the Chi-Lites among his favorites. And if there was a football or basketball game on, Marty was ready to watch—especially if his beloved Louisville Cardinals were playing. He knew how to enjoy the simple things: good music, a good game, and good company.

But perhaps what Marty will be remembered for most was the way he cared about people. He was a gentle soul who genuinely wanted to know how others were doing. He asked about the kids, checked on how someone was feeling after a health crisis, and made sure the people around him were okay. He wanted the very best for his family and carried a sincere concern for the well-being of others.

Marty had a kind heart, a curious mind, an artistic spirit, and a love for music, sports, and the people he held dear. He leaves behind memories that will bring smiles, laughter, and maybe even a few good sing-alongs for years to come. His presence will be deeply missed, but the love he gave so freely will remain.

Marty is survived by his cousin, Yvette Frank, as well as a host of other cousins and friends who will grieve his passing.  Rest easy, Marty. May there always be good music playing, a great game on the television, a pencil and paper nearby, and plenty of numbers that finally add up just right.

Marty was cremated.  Graveside Services will be held at New Albany National Cemetery at 1:30 PM on Friday, October 16, 2026.
