Mary Lou Thurman, 77, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the heart and guiding force of her family, a devoted matriarch whose strength, loyalty, and unwavering care shaped generations.
Mary Lou was fiercely protective of those she loved, especially her children and grandchildren, always placing their health, safety, and happiness above all else. Her love was steady and enduring, expressed in both her actions and her words. She was known for speaking her mind, whether or not others were ready to hear it, and that honesty was part of what made her so unforgettable.
As a young woman she found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time at the Bingo Hall, tending to her beloved animals, and working in her garden. Above all, she cherished cooking for her family, filling her home with warmth, laughter, and the comfort of a shared meal.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, James "Tody" Thurman; her son, John Christopher Bond; and her brother, Robert "Buddy" Parry.
She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory forward, including her children, David D. Bond (Stacey), Robert "Joe" Bond (Tammy), and Jamey Bond (Darryl); eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and her sister, Linda Parry (Henry).
Her family remembers her as one in a million, a woman whose love, strength, and spirit can never be replaced.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Legacy Funeral Center, Nunnelley Chapel, 4327 Taylor Boulevard. Funeral services in celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. the following day at the funeral home, with burial to follow at St. Stephen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the funeral home to cover final expenses.
