Marie Nifong, 97, passed away peacefully at her residence on July 30, 2026. Born on August 15, 1928, Marie lived a life defined by faith, hard work, unconditional love, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Marie was a caring, loving, and hardworking woman whose greatest joy was the blessing of her large family. She found immense happiness in spending time with those she loved and took great pride in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. She taught her family the importance of kindness, getting along with one another, and always standing together through life's joys and challenges. Her love for her family was the center of her life, and every moment shared with them was treasured.
Some of Marie's happiest memories were made during Christmas celebrations surrounded by family, where laughter, love, and togetherness filled her home. She also enjoyed simple pleasures, especially going out to eat, with McDonald's always holding a special place among her favorite outings. Her warm heart, gentle spirit, and caring nature touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A woman of deep faith, Marie was a proud and devoted member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church. Her faith provided strength throughout her life and was reflected in the compassion, grace, and generosity she showed to others each day.
Marie leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her children, Gail Fleming (Greg), Linda Snelling (Lynn), Sharon May, Danny Nifong (Patty), Tim Nifong, Adam Nifong (Bobbie), and Dale Nifong; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren, along with many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Arthur and Rena Romans; her loving husband, Raymond Nifong,her son, Steve Nifong; her siblings, Calvin Romans, Ann Nifong, Carrie Rose, George Romans, and Virginia Romans; her son-in-law, William May; her daughter-in-law, Connie; her great-grandson, Jared Harvey and her lifelong best friend, Chena Lewis.
Though her family grieves her passing, they find comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind and the legacy of love, faith, compassion, and family values she instilled in each of them. Her gentle guidance, warm embrace, and enduring love will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
Visitation for Marie will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Legacy Scott Chapel, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130.
A funeral service celebrating Marie's life will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever missed, Marie's legacy will continue through the family she cherished so deeply.
