Marie Jeanne Darr

Marie Jeanne Alphonsine Wilson Darr was born on January 1, 1927, in Cumberland, MD to the prominent Dr. Homer James Wilson and his wife Jeanne Robert Wilson     She was one of seven children and the eldest of five daughters.   Mrs. Marie Wilson Darr graduated from St. Peter and Paul Catholic High School of Cumberland, MD in   and shortly afterwards, moved to Louisville, KY to attend Ursline College. 

Mrs. Marie Wilson Darr was a tailor, fashion consultant and dressmaker extraordinaire!   She worked for a number of fashion establishments in Louisville; the most notable was for the designer, Chester Weinberger.  Marie had a gift of color coordinating that bordered on mystical.  She acted and dressed as lady right up to her death.  She was always in style and loved the flair of seasonal colors.  In later years, she was a private dressmaker and housekeeper for several prominent Louisville families.     In her formative years, she was a member Alter Society of St. Philip Neri Church and School, where all six of her children attended.

In retirement, she spent her days in praise to the Lord, tending to her ever-growing garden, home, children, grandchildren and friends.  She taught sewing to neighbors and was active in every neighborhood event. She greatly enjoyed picking up her friends and going to mass every morning. She drove right up to the age of 91 and loved her independence.   She was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers James and Jack, her children Alice Louise, Paul Joseph, Richard Edward and James Ernest.  She is survived by her sons Karl and Charles Darr (Margaret).  She also leaves sisters, Josephine, Diane Claire, Suzanne and Nellie. . She also leaves bonus children Carry and Ruth Ann Reed, Charlie Smith, Bobby Beck and Charles and Frank Hulsman and daughter-in-law Teresa Darr. She leaves behind grandchildren   Lisa Darr (Greg) Laura Darr Yeager (Lyle), Rebecca Darr Huff (Theo) Shavonda Darr, Alyssa Darr Bellew (Derick) and Susan Darr Oliver; and Aaron Stone Darr (Ashleigh), John Paul Darr (Savannah), Patrick William Darr (Jeheen) and James Earnest Darr (Heather), along with 16 great and 1 great-great grandchild.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the care and compassion of the staff at Clarke County Hospital. Kim, Dean and Sarah treated my mother with compassion and kindness.

Mrs. Marie Wilson Darr will be laid to rest in the family plot at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Louisville KY.

There will be a visitation held on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 5-7pm at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main St, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130. Mass will be on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at 9:30 am at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church. There will be hour of visitation held prior from 8-9am before at Legacy Funeral Center.
