Lorie Courtney Obituary

Lorie Ann Courtney, age 60 of Charlestown, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, leaving behind a legacy stitched together with kindness, laughter, and unconditional love. She spent many dedicated years working as a cleaner for the Charlestown Housing Authority, serving her community with quiet pride. But anyone who knew Lorie knows her impact reached far beyond the work she did—because Lorie had a way of touching lives simply by being herself.

Affectionately known as the Crochet Queen, Lorie poured her heart into every handmade gift she created. Her blankets, hats, and keepsakes became cherished treasures, each one woven with care, purpose, and a little piece of her spirit. She loved giving things she made with her own hands, and through those gifts, she left her warmth with her family and friends forever.  Friendly, open-hearted, and endlessly approachable, Lorie never met a stranger. Her smile made you feel welcome; her humor made you feel at ease; her energy made every room brighter. She was an avid U of L Cardinal Basketball fan—always ready to cheer, shout, and celebrate her team with full enthusiasm.

Lorie brought joy into the everyday moments. She made the world’s best-ever No Bake Cookies—no competition necessary. She loved camping and fishing at Deam Lake with her family, where she found peace in nature and joy in togetherness. And late at night, when most of the world was asleep, she could often be found glued to her favorite video games—Super Nintendo, Donkey Kong, and Tetris—playing well into the early morning hours.  Her love for music was unmatched. If you passed her on the street, you probably heard her before you saw her—windows down, stereo blasting, and Lorie belting out every single word to Tone Loc’s “Funky Cold Medina,” turning an ordinary drive into a private concert.  But above all, Lorie’s heart belonged to her family, especially her grandchildren. She adored slumber parties, movie nights, and trips to the 4-H Fair with her grandbabies. Those moments—full of snacks, laughter, cuddles, and memories—were her greatest joy.

Lorie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dennis Courtney; her mother, Wanda Lou (Washburn) Bowman; sisters-in-law, Sheila & Debbie Courtney; and her father and mother-in-law, Robert & Betty Courtney.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever carry her memory: daughters Alisa (Jose) Courtney and April Dent-Robinson (Dewayne Robinson, Sr.); sons Anthony Warford (Krystal) and Larry Courtney (Anna Chastain); her father, Robert Rhodes Bowman; sisters Rebecca Stubblefield (Shawn) and Rhonda Smith (Jack); brother, Andy Bowman; brothers-in-law Joe & JR Courtney; her cherished grandchildren Arika Cooper, Crispin Badillo, Adrianna Sanchez, Willy (Alivia) Dent, Kaden Dent, DeWayne Robinson, Jr., Ensley Robinson, Jeremiah Warford, Serenity Warford, Anthony Warford, Jr., Junior Courtney, Lanna Courtney, Lydia Courtney, and Linkin Courtney; and her precious great-grandchildren Knoxlee, Hazeleigh, Wrenlee, and Chevy.

Lorie lived with heart, humor, and an unshakeable love for the people around her. She made ordinary days extraordinary, loved deeply, gave freely, and created memories her family will hold dear forever. The world is quieter without her music, her laughter, and her bright spirit—but her love will continue to echo through the many lives she touched.  May her warmth, her strength, and her joy live on in every stitch she crocheted, every song she loved, and every memory she leaves behind.
