Lois “Sweet Lucy” House (nee Scown), a beloved great-great grandmother, great grandmother, grandmother, mother, sister, cousin, aunt and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was 97 years old.

Born on May 3, 1929, in Lead, South Dakota, Lois was the daughter of William Scown and Florence Williams Scown. She grew up alongside her siblings, Shirley Scheuneman and Bill Scown. Throughout her life, Lois carried with her the values instilled during her formative years – positivity, resilience, and an enduring love for learning.

Lois believed deeply in the power of education and lifelong learning. One of her proudest moments came when someone she greatly admired referred to her as an “educated peasant”, a compliment that perfectly encapsulated her humility and intellectual curiosity. She embraced every opportunity to expand her knowledge and encouraged those around her to do the same.

Family was at the heart of Lois’ life. She was a devoted mother to Lynn Craven, Leanna Day, Holly Denison, Bradley House, and the late Thomas Beimrohr and Shelby House. Her love for her children was boundless and unwavering. She also shared a close bond with big sister Shirley Scheuneman, who survives her.

Lois experienced both great love and profound loss in her lifetime. She was predeceased by two loving husbands: Thomas Beimrohr and Lee House. Despite these losses, she remained a beacon of positivity for those who knew her.

An exceptional cook with a passion for creating delicious meals, Lois found joy in sharing food with family and friends. Her kitchen was often filled with warmth and laughter as she prepared dishes that brought people together.

Lois’ legacy is one of kindness, strength, and an unyielding zest for life. Her ability to find joy in simple pleasures and her dedication to those she loved will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A visitation will be held on August 14, 2026, from 11:00 to 12:30 followed by a service at 12:30 at Legacy Funeral Center Scott Chapel, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130.
