Laverne Parsons was born in Louisville, Kentucky on February 19, 1961 and was a proud Portland resident. She passed away on February 10, 2026 leaving behind a legacy of immense resilience and a spirit that could not be dimmed by the hardships she faced.
Laverne’s life was defined by a long and difficult battle with physical pain. While her journey was often marked by struggle, she met every challenge with a quiet, stubborn strength. To those who knew her, she was a symbol of what it means to endure. We find great peace today in knowing that her battle is over; she is finally free from the pain that she carried for so long, resting in a place of total comfort and light.
Despite her daily burdens, Laverne found joy in the simple rhythms of life. She was a dedicated fan of her soap operas, never missing the stories that gave her a familiar escape. Most of all, her heart belonged to her family. Her greatest happiness came from watching her grandson Carson and granddaughter Ariel grow and play; they were a bright light in her world and a constant reason for her to keep pushing forward.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Gene Parsons; her children, Kevin Parsons, Lisa Prewitt (Dabney), and Kimberly Parsons; her grandchildren, Ariel Parsons and Carson Prewitt; her brothers, Glendell Simpson (Mary Lu) and Roger Simpson; her Chihuahua, Lilly; and her prosthetic companion, Lucy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ervin Simpson and Anna Louise Houchens; her step-father, William Houchens; her brother, Donnie Simpson; her sister, Pat Greenwell; her step-siblings, Brenda, Sue and Ronnie; and her brother-in-law, Perry Parsons.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the nursing home staff where she resided for their compassionate care and companionship. We also want to thank the EMS team for their tireless work and the dedication they showed to Laverne in her final moments.
