Konita Jane Mattingly Obituary

Konita Jane Mattingly, 77, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was a beautiful reflection of kindness, strength, devotion, and unconditional love.

Born on September 30, 1948, in Louisville, Kentucky, Konita was the cherished daughter of Claude Proctor and Viola Spratt. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother, caring sister, and loyal friend whose greatest joy in life was taking care of the people she loved.

For more than 60 wonderful years, Konita shared a deep and enduring love with her beloved husband, Richard Mattingly, Sr. Together they created a home overflowing with laughter, music, warmth, and treasured memories. Their love story was one of unwavering devotion, and the family they built together became the center of Konita’s world. Her home was always open — a comforting place where everyone felt welcomed, cared for, and deeply loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Richard Mattingly, Sr.; four precious angel babies; her son, Rodney Lee Mattingly; sons-in-law, Albert Miller and Leon Farris, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Alana Mattingly; and her siblings, Bobby Proctor, Francis Proctor, Leona Proctor, James Proctor, William Proctor, Clara Proctor, Albert Proctor, Claude Proctor, Sarah Proctor, Lora Proctor, Orba Proctor, and Ernest Proctor. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Tommy Mattingly, James Mattingly, and Phillip Mattingly; and sisters-in-law, Ann Bowman and Virginia Wayne.

Left to carry on her love and memory are her children, Francis Miller; Rebecca Lynn Mattingly (Paul Devine); Sheila Marie Farris; Ronda Kay Mattingly (Don Haddox); and Richard Lee Mattingly, Jr. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild, each of whom held a very special place in her heart. Her love for her family knew no limits, and she treasured every moment spent with them. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Bill Alvey; sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Kennedy and Nancy Proctor; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were blessed to know her love.

Konita will always be remembered for her gentle heart, nurturing spirit, and the quiet strength she carried so gracefully. She had a special gift for making people feel safe, comforted, and loved. Whether through a warm meal, a kind word, or simply her presence, she touched countless lives in meaningful ways.

She was an incredible cook who could turn even the simplest ingredients into a meal filled with love. Her homemade meatloaf became a treasured family favorite and a symbol of the care she poured into everything she did. Konita also found joy in music and dancing, often listening to her cherished record collection. She loved planting flowers and took pride in making her yard bloom beautifully each season. Holidays, especially Christmas, were magical in her hands, and she created memories her children and grandchildren will hold close forever.
