Kathleen Shelton Obituary

Kathleen Carole (Mills) Shelton, age 83 of Jeffersonville, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.  Daughter of the late Harry M. and Mable I. (Mills) Sifers, Kathleen was born June 17, 1942, in Belleville, New Jersey.  Kathleen, known as Kay and Katie, built a successful career in restaurant management, working as manager of Denny’s, regional manager of Subway Restaurants, and working for the State of Tennessee, teaching food service to the blind.  Kay always took great pride in supporting herself and her three children.

Kathleen is survived by children: daughters, Kim Nifong (Jon Been) and Teresa May (Mike); son, Christopher Totten (Sam Eckmann); her sister, Lucy Fentress; brother, Ronnie Sifers; cherished grandchildren: Brad Nifong (Missy), Ashley May and Abby May; and her treasured great-granddaughters, Maggie and Aubrey Nifong, who brought her endless joy. Each of them carries forward her kindness, strength, and loving example.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, and special aunt and uncle, Millie and George Green, whom she had fond memories of during her time living in New York as a child.  During retirement, Kay enjoyed summertime cookouts and pool days with family at Kim’s house. She was an avid fan of the University of Louisville Cardinals basketball team, rarely missing a game.  Kay loved to dance, never hesitating to jump up and show her moves, without regard to time or place.  She enjoyed trips to New York City to visit her son. Yet, no adventure ever meant more to her than time spent with family.  She was the heart of her family -- always watching over them, making sure everyone was safe, happy, and never doubtful of how deeply they were loved. Her care was constant, her love unconditional, and her pride in her family immeasurable.  Kathleen will be remembered for her lively spirit, her generous heart, and the way she made everyone feel cherished. Her love will continue to guide and comfort her family, living on in memories filled with laughter, music, and unwavering devotion.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Legacy Scott Chapel Funeral Home, 921 Main Street, Jeersonville, Indiana 47130.  A Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00 pm, officiated by Jon Been.
