Katherine Abernathy Peak, age 77, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on January 16, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on May 6, 1948, in Jeffersonville, Indiana, to the late William Abernathy and Clara Ferguson Abernathy.
Katherine worked for many years as a secretary and was known for her dedication and reliability. She greatly enjoyed playing bingo and was a devoted Christian woman who faithfully attended Utica Baptist Church.
On August 28, 1993, she was united in marriage to Thomas Peak in Las Vegas, Nevada, who survives her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Abernathy, and her sisters, Annetta Abernathy and Ann Windell.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Peak; her son, Richard Halstead; her grandchildren, Alexa Medlock-Burkes (Bradley Burks) and Luke Medlock; her great-grandchildren, Paxton Burkes and Tate Burkes; her brother, Billy Abernathy; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Legacy Funeral Home, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Utica, Indiana.
