Karen Leigh Matthews, age 72, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 9, 1952, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the beloved daughter of Delores Horn Matthews and the late Willie Matthews.
Karen dedicated many years of her life working as a certified nurse aide, caring for others with compassion and grace. Outside of her career, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life—watching old westerns, listening to Bob Marley, and painting her nails in vibrant colors. She was a gifted artist, talented in both drawing and painting, expressing her creativity in every stroke.
Her heart belonged to her family. She loved her children and grandchildren deeply and was immensely proud of each of them. Karen lived her life walking hand-in-hand with Jesus, holding strong to her faith and radiating kindness, strength, and devotion.
She is preceded in death by her father, Willie Matthews; her beloved son, Khristopher Matthews; grandson, Kevin Adcock, Jr.; great-grandson Kamdyn Luttrell; brothers Gary Matthews and Kevin Matthews; and sister Jeanne Greenup.
Karen leaves behind her loving mother, Delores Horn Matthews; her devoted daughters, Melissa Copley (Ben) and Carmella Cooper; her daughter-in-law, Veronica Snowden; her cherished grandchildren: Tifani Cortie, Brooke Copley, Meagan Copley, Kelsyi Davis (Tommy), Payton Copley, Annakyn Copley, Savannah Matthews, Grace Matthews, Ben Copley III, Noah Copley, Xander Matthews, Jedidiah Webb, Tessa, Dakota, Lyric, and Matthew. She is also survived by her sisters Bev Downey and Heather Armstrong, 12 great-grandchildren, and her loyal dog, Bruno.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Legacy Schoppenhorst Chapel Funeral Home, 1832 West Market Street, Louisville, KY 40215. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, with cremation to take place afterward.
Karen’s legacy of love, faith, and creativity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
