Julia Lee (Becht) Leach, peacefully passed away in her home in Jeffersonville, Indiana, on June 30, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on October 16, 1928, in New Albany, Julia lived a remarkable and vibrant life, filled with love, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
A woman of grace and warmth, Julia’s passion for life was reflected in her many joys—whether it was her love for reading, especially her Bible, her countless hours spent solving crossword puzzles, or tending to her beautiful garden. She had a deep affinity for birds and plants, finding peace in their presence, and her home was always a sanctuary of blooming flowers and cheerful chirps. She enjoyed researching family genealogy with her daughter Lisa and her sister Mary. Julia’s greatest joy, however, came from the time spent with her beloved family. Her gentle spirit and infectious laughter will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew her.
Julia was a pillar of love and support, not only for her children but for all who were fortunate enough to be a part of her life. She treasured every moment with her family, and her visits to her sister, Mary, were always a highlight—full of cherished memories and stories.
She is survived by her children, Lisa Julia Humphrey (Oliver), Laura Ann Pincon (Sebastien), Robert Earle Leach, Jr. (Linda), and Nancy Lee Schnell. Julia’s legacy also lives on through her grandson, James Anthony Sewell Jr. (Heather), her great-grandchildren, Violett, Rhett, and Everest Sewell, her sister, Mary Carroll Dees, as well as numerous extended family members who were blessed by her loving presence.
Julia was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert E. Leach, Sr., her parents, Herman Charles Becht, Sr. and Julia Lee (Hunt) Becht and her beloved brothers, Herman Charles Becht, Jr., Stephen Michael Becht, Sr., and William Hunt Becht. Their memories will forever be woven into the fabric of her life.
A celebration of Julia’s life will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025, from 12:00–3:00 PM at the Legacy Scott Chapel, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor a life well-lived.
Julia’s love, wisdom, and gentle spirit will remain in our hearts forever. She touched so many lives with her kindness, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her most. May she rest in eternal peace.
