Joseph Anthony Hillerich, 74, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on January 15, 1949, to the late John and Bertha Hillerich in Louisville, Kentucky. Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a graduate of Desales High School, where he also played football for the Colts. Joe was also a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army. He was a dedicated, organized and hardworking man who was good with numbers. Joe never met a stranger and loved social gatherings where he could people watch. He enjoyed spending time fishing with his son Eric, and going to his dad’s on Saturdays to work cars with his dad and brothers. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed a can of his favorite beer, Milwaukee’s Best Light, collecting guns, going bowling, and taking trips to Gatlinburg. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, John August Hillerich and Bertha May Corum Hillerich, Joe is preceded in death by first wife, Norma Hillerich; step daughter, Candy Zinelio; 5 siblings, Mick Hillerich, Gina Carr, Rosie Heitkemper, Jeri Miller, and Greg Hillerich; and Vietnam Veteran/best friend, Mike Jarvis.
Left to cherish his memory, Joe leaves behind his loving wife, Janet Hillerich; 2 children, Eric Hillerich, and Sherrie Wadsack (Matt); 1 stepdaughter, Melinda Gayle Peeno; 3 grandchildren, Eric Casey Hillerich, Katelan Howell (Brandon), and Bryan Tye; 2 step-grandchildren, Olivia Peeno, and Colin Peeno; 4 great-grandchildren, Maverick Dinsmore, Graycen Howell, Braden Howell, and Khloe Howell; four-legged companion, JR; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Joseph Anthony Hillerich will be held at 1 PM on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Legacy Funeral Center – Nunnelley Chapel, 4327 Taylor Blvd., Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 1 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Private burial at Resthaven Cemetery will take place on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
