John Charles Bennett, age 82, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026.

Born on June 23, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, John was a lifelong resident of the Portland neighborhood, a community he loved deeply and proudly called home. Throughout his life, he was known for his generous heart, warm personality, and unwavering willingness to help others. John never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making friends wherever he went. Whether lending a helping hand to a neighbor or supporting those in need, he was always there when someone needed him. His quiet acts of kindness and dedication to his community left a lasting impression on countless lives.

John was a proud graduate of Male High School and a longtime member of Cravens Athletic Club, where he enjoyed fellowship and formed many lifelong friendships.

John loved his family and was an extraordinary grandfather. His granddaughter, Jessica Bennett, was the light of his life, and he took great pride in being the best grandfather she could ever have. His love, guidance, and unwavering support will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

John is survived by his sons, James Bennett and Chris Bennett (Rosa); his beloved granddaughter, Jessica Bennett; his sister, Becky Biggs; and his niece and nephew, Pam Cotton and Bill Cotton.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Johnnie E. Vance, and his brother, Edward Vance.

John will be remembered for his kindness, his infectious smile, his love for his family and friends, and the countless ways he enriched the lives of those around him. His legacy of compassion, generosity, and community spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate John's life during a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Legacy Funeral Center – Schoppenhorst Chapel, 1832 West Market Street, Louisville, Kentucky 40203.

Though he will be deeply missed, John's memory will forever remain a blessing to all who loved him.
