John Joseph Baer

John Joseph Baer, 74, of Louisville, Kentucky departed from us in this world and entered into
eternal rest on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was
born on August 19, 1946 in Marshfield, Wisconsin; third son of the late Raymond Terrance and
Florence Katherine (Reinhard) Baer. John grew up surrounded by the love and support of his
family at 112 W 4th Street, where he participated in the Boy Scouts of America, built his faith
and grade school education at St. John Catholic Parish, and attended Columbus High School -
making many dear friends he would continue to keep in touch with throughout his life. After
graduation, John attended Spencerian College in Milwaukee where he absolutely excelled at
socializing and hosting his fellow classmates at the occasional electrifying keg party. In spite of
his lively adventures, in 1969 he successfully earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business
Management and stepped out into the world to make his mark.
John “One Note” worked in retail sales management for many years at several prestigious
companies such as Crawford’s Department Store, Children’s Palace, and J.C. Penny’s -
achieving the soaring goals he set for himself by following the sage advice of his beloved father:
“Shoot for the stars and you may land on the roof. Shoot for the roof and you may not get off the
ground.”
John enjoyed many hobbies throughout his beautiful and wonderful life including camping trips
with his family, dancing the Twist at the Airway Bar, fishing, building model cars, regaling anyone
who was lucky enough to listen with the adventures of his life, learning the lyrics to all the good
songs that told you a story, and planning the occasional “get together” to celebrate family and
friends...because “remember, no man is a failure who has friends”.
In addition to his dear parents John was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Baer. Left to cherish
his memory are his son, Steve Baer and wife Katie; daughters, Barbara Burk and Katherine
Perry and husband Chris; stepkids Erika Ferron and husband Brandon, Jake Adams and wife
Amber, Cody Adams, Travis Adams and wife Alyssa; brothers, Robert “Red” Baer and wife
Linda, Patrick “Cubby” Baer; sister, Patricia Delaney and husband Dennis “Soupy”, along with a
plethora of grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews - all of
whom he lovingly remembered with a card or a special song pick posted to Facebook each year
on their birthdays.
Memories were priceless and held dearly by John. The family would like to invite all of those
who knew him to come share a memory or two at a visitation held on Friday, May 28, 2021 from
5-8pm at Legacy Funeral Center - located at 921 Main Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana 47130. A
funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 12pm with visitation before from
10-12pm at Legacy Funeral Center.
