Jed Elliott DeWitt, 61, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at his home in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on August 28, 1962, to Melvin DeWitt and Nina Mae Lawrence, Jed was a lifelong resident of Louisville, where he became known for his vibrant spirit and infectious humor. Jed was a jokester at heart, always ready with a witty remark or a funny story to lift the spirits of those around him. His great sense of humor endeared him to many, making him the life of any gathering. An enthusiastic dancer, Jed often spoke fondly of "cuttin' a rug," showcasing his love for life and music.
A man of humble beginnings and strong work ethic, Jed dedicated himself to various trades throughout his life. He worked as a painter, upholsterer, and laborer, always putting in hard work to provide for his family. His commitment and versatility in his professions were a testament to his enduring strength and determination.
Jed was a man who valued family above all. He was the go-to person whenever his loved ones needed anything, always ready to lend a helping hand. His candid nature and straightforwardness were hallmarks of his character, never shying away from speaking his mind. As a grandfather, Jed was exceptionally lenient, allowing his grandchildren to get away with almost anything, much to their delight.
Jed's memory will be cherished by his family and friends. His legacy of love, humor, and unwavering support will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Jed is preceded in death by his loving wife, Roberta Ann DeWitt; his parents, Melvin Dewitt, and Nina Mae Lawrence; and 5 siblings, Ula Mae Couch, Mavis Melvin, Otis DeWitt, Richard DeWitt, and Joseph DeWitt.
Left to cherish his memory, Jed is survived by his 4 children, Kayla Turner (Ernie Stewart), Mindy Turner (Chris), Jed Turner (Erin), and Timothy Turner Sr.; 9 grandchildren, Timothy Dale Turner, Brittney Turner, Timothy Wayne Turner Jr., Samantha Stewart, Isaiah Turner, Dylan Stice, MaKenna Turner, Kelsey Stewart, and Ernest Stewart Jr.; 2 great-grandchildren, Amyrah Turner, and Makayla Wright; 2 siblings, Byron DeWitt, and Rheta Shaw; several great-aunts/uncles; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mr. Jed DeWitt will be held at 12 PM on Friday, June 7, 2024, at Legacy Funeral Center – Schoppenhorst Chapel, 1832 W. Market Street, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 11 AM to 8 PM, and prior to the funeral service from 10 AM to 12 PM, at the funeral home. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
