Jane Marie (Gould) Coleman

Jane Marie (Gould) Coleman, 97, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023, in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on January 7, 1926, to the late Robert and Edith Gould in Clarksville, Indiana. Affectionately known as “Janie”, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Janie was a kind, selfless generous lady who was greatly loved. She was a graduate of Jeff High School, where she was President of the GAA, and Captain of the Girls Basketball team. Janie excelled at athletics. She was voted Who’s Who in Athletics 1944-1945 and set a High Jump record in 1945. More recently, Janie was a member of the Ladies Golf League of Wooded View Golf Course, and a member of the Speed Ladies Golf League. She was also a devoted Christian, and member at Southeast Christian Church. Janie never met a stranger, and was always there to put a smile on someone’s face when they were in need. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Robert and Edith Gould, Janie is preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Woodson D. Coleman; sisters, Norma Mae Hutt, and Bonnie Lee Gould; and a grandson, Todd J. Stapleton.

Left to cherish her memory, Janie is survived by her daughters, Celeste M. Hughes, and Sharon L. Coleman; grandson, Sean P. Stapleton; 4 great grandchildren, Ian, Colton, Tiffany, and Alexis; 4 great-great grandchildren, Case, Josi, Tatum, and Katherine; and a host of extended family and close friends.

A visitation for Mrs. Janie Coleman will be held from 1 PM to 7 PM, on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana. A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
