James Roger Fitzgerald Obituary

In loving memory of James "Roger" Fitzgerald, more affectionately known by his grandchildren as “Peeps”. Roger departed this world suddenly on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at the age of 57. Roger was a pillar of strength and love to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His passion for sports, particularly as an ardent University of Louisville fan and a dedicated follower of the Pittsburgh Steelers, was a testament to his unwavering loyalty and love for the game. He shared his enthusiasm for sports with everyone, making game days and discussions lively and unforgettable.

However, beyond his love for sports, Roger's true legacy lies in the role he played within his family. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he exuded warmth and care in every moment spent together. His devotion to his family was unmatched, and his love knew no bounds. He found immense joy in doting on his grandchildren, creating cherished memories, especially during their shared moments at the local movie theatre, where laughter and happiness filled the air.

Roger was not just a family man; he was a dedicated union worker, a testament to his strong work ethic and commitment to his principles. His integrity and steadfastness in his beliefs resonated with all who had the honor of knowing him.

He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Simms; father, Bruce Fitzgerald, Sr.; and brother, Earl Fitzgerald.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Tonya Fitzgerald; children, Michael Todd Simms, Jessica Huffman, and Kristine Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Jeffery “JJ”, Angelica, Elijah, Kylie, Emily, Devin, Aydan, Christopher, and Veronica; six great grandchildren; mother, Janice Fitzgerald; siblings, Bruce Fitzgerald, Jr., Kathy Umfleet, and Holly Claycomb; and many other extended family members and friends.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, and joyous memories. Though he may have left this world too soon, the impact he made during his time here will remain eternally cherished.
