James Edward Muthler, age 59, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on May 11, 2025. Born on June 10, 1965, in Louisville to Linda Manion Muthler and the late Albert Phillip Muthler, James was a dedicated family man known for his warmth, sense of humor, and love of life’s simple pleasures.
James worked for many years in maintenance, where he was respected for his reliability, strong work ethic, and practical know-how. Outside of work, he found joy in watching car and motorcycle drag racing, mowing the lawn, and caring for his beloved dogs — especially his poodles and American pit bull. A devoted grandfather, James treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing cards and proudly cared for his cherished 1972 blue and matte black Chevy Monte Carlo, a vehicle that reflected his style and spirit.
James is survived by his loving wife, Dawn M. Muthler; his mother, Linda Muthler; his children, James Edward Muthler, Jr. (Toni Mattingly) and Shelby Fae Muthler (D.J.); and his adored grandchildren, Zaeleigh Hale, Nevin Muthler, and Kaleb Hale. He also leaves behind his sisters, Debbie Muthler (David) and Donna Miller (Joe); his brother, Phillip Muthler (Sarah); and a host of other relatives and close friends who will miss him deeply.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service, at the Legacy Schoppenhorst Chapel Funeral Home, 1832 W. Market St., Louisville, KY, 40203. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 11:00 a.m., with entombment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
James will be remembered for his kind heart, love of family, and the simple joys that brought him happiness. He leaves a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love.
