James Johnson Jr., 77, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born to James Elmer Johnson Sr. and Catherine Leona Clark Johnson in New Haven, Kentucky. James will be remembered for his unwavering faith in God, his boundless energy, and his outgoing nature. James had a deep love for his family, cherishing every moment spent with them. His cherished four-legged companion, Cooper, was always by his side, a testament to his affection for animals. James found joy in the simple things in life, often seen taking long walks and playing his harmonica with a contagious enthusiasm. He was known for his generosity, volunteering at The Salvation Army and helping those in need, despite facing hardships himself. His legacy of kindness and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. James Johnson Jr. leaves behind a community grateful for his presence and a family who will miss him dearly. Though he may be gone, his spirit will continue to inspire others to live with faith, love, and compassion.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James Elmer Johnson Sr. and Catherine Leona Clark Johnson; daughter, Pamela Sharp; spouse, Nanette Delph Johnson; and brothers, Robert Anthony Johnson, Thomas Howard Johnson, and Joseph Lawrence Johnson.
Left to cherish his memory, James is survived by his sisters, Brenda Coomes (Donnie), Patricia Johnson, Doris Robertson (Tony), and Mary Johnson; brothers, Dennis Johnson, and Gene Hensley (Barbara); nieces, Chasity Crepps (Joe), and Donna Lichtefeld (Mike); grandson, Justin Murphy (Jennifer); and great-grandson, Justin Murphy Jr.; and a host of extended family and close friends.
A funeral service for Mr. James Johnson will be held at 1:00 PM. Monday, March 18, 2024 at Legacy Funeral Center – Schoppenhorst Chapel, 1832 W. Market Street, Louisville, Kentucky, with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, from 11 AM to 1 PM, prior to the funeral service.
