James was born November 30, 1945 in Louisville, Kentucky and passed away on January 30, 2025 with those he loved near. He had two nicknames; Jimmy and Butch. He departed from this world leaving behind the love of his life, his best friend and wife, Carmen Evarts Dean, as well as his amazing, precious daughter and caregiver, Kristie Hardin (Brian). He also leaves behind four sisters; Betty Sharer (Jerry), Kathy Samuels, Vicki Dean, and Sandy Grammar who all loved him very much as well as his granddaughter, Peyton Kitchen, and his three grandsons; Michael Dean, Brandon Kitchen, and Brian Dean. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Dorothy Dean, his three sons; Jack Dean, Nicky Dean, and Chuck Dean, also a sister, Dorothy Carver.
James retired from Roadway Express along with 50 plus years as a member of Teamsters Local 89. He loved the racehorses and frequently visited Churchill Downs. He was a man of few words, but meant each word he said.
He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren and a lot of nieces and nephews along with his beloved bulldogs, “Poppy” and Phoebe Macaroni. He will be forever loved and missed.
Visitation will be from 1 PM until 8 PM Monday, February 3, 2025 and from 9 PM until time of the service on Tuesday, February 4 at the Legacy Nunnelley Chapel, 4327 Taylor Blvd. Louisville, KY 40215. The funeral service will be at 1 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow in the Resthaven Cemetery.
