It is with heavy hearts that we share that our beloved mother, Harriet Eileen Kirk, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024 surrounded by her family at the age of 84. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 17, 1940.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Harry J. Herbert and Elisabert Rose Herbert (Schroerlucke).
Left to cherish her memory: her children, Amy Guernsey (James), Brian Kirk (Tiffany), Susan DeVary, Wendy Slavik (Scott); her sibling, Harry J Herbert, Jr.; her grandchildren; Katie Guernsey, Taylor Stone, Andrew Kirk, David Hagan, Lauren Devary, Ashton Slavik, Bryce Slavik, and Lainie Slavik; as well as many great-grandchildren.
Mom received her Bachelors in Elementary Education from IUS and then went on to obtain her masters degree, both of which were of high distinction and honors. She excelled in her academics and was a wonderful and gifted teacher. Mom taught at Reisz Learning Center teaching adult literacy for many years. It was a fulfilling job that she was so very passionate about.
Mom was a brilliant woman of many talents. She was an accomplished artist who showed at different art shows, including St James Art fair! She sold many paintings throughout Louisville over the years. She worked in watercolor, oil, and acrylic paints. She was also an avid gardener who was very proud of her lush gardens each year. She had flower beds that she cultivated that were so very beautiful and colorful. She loved birdwatching and knew every species. Her favorite vacations were at the beach, particularly, Clearwater Beach, Florida.
Mom was a lifelong learner. She was curious about the world around her and always wanted to understand and know more. She loved to read and always had a book in her hand. One of Mom's favorite things to do was cook! She loved making meals for her family. She was the biggest University of Kentucky basketball fan and threw UofK parties for the games.

Our Mom was kind, gentle, generous, witty and funny. She was loving, supportive and the center of our lives. She loved all of her family and doted on all of her grandkids with love and affection. We will miss her more than words can describe. Charitable contributions can be made to Parkinson's Foundation in memory of Harriet Kirk.
