Grover Junior Blanton Obituary

Grover Blanton, 85, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026.

Born in Harlan County, Kentucky, Grover was the son of the late Jess and Roberta Blanton. He carried with him throughout his life the values of hard work, humility, and devotion to family that were instilled in him from an early age.

Grover was the cherished husband of nearly 60 years to the love of his life, Joy Grim Blanton. Together, they built a life centered on faith, love, and family, sharing countless memories and celebrating the blessings of nearly six decades together.

A proud veteran, Grover honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he dedicated 32 years of faithful employment to Reynolds Metals, where he earned the respect of coworkers through his strong work ethic and dependability before enjoying a well-earned retirement. During his years at Reynolds, he was also a beloved union steward who faithfully represented and advocated for his fellow workers with fairness, integrity, and compassion.

Grover's faith was an important part of his life. He was a longtime and devoted member of Meigs Avenue Church of Christ and continued his fellowship following its merger with Hamburg Pike Church of Christ. His greatest passion was sharing the Gospel, a calling that led him on mission trips to Panama and throughout Central America for more than 20 years. He found tremendous joy in serving others and helping spread God's Word, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives through his ministry. Beyond his service, Grover was an avid genealogy enthusiast who took great pride in researching his family's history and preserving it for future generations. His quiet kindness, steadfast character, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Blanton; sons, Mark Andrew Blanton, Jeffrey Todd Blanton (Misty), and Stephen Paul Blanton (Jessica); grandchildren, Andrew, Chelsea, Brittany, Trevor, Cameron, Shelby, Madelyn, and McKenna; great grandchildren, Zoey, Roen, Lana, and Mark; siblings, Eugene Blanton (Birgitta) and Serena Marcum.
