Gary Wayne Garrett, age 60, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2025.
Born on July 10, 1965, in Louisville, Gary was the beloved son of the late Chester Garrett and Bertha Simpkins. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Gary will be remembered for his deep love for family, his warm heart, and his ability to bring laughter and comfort wherever he went.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Angela Garrett; his sons, Gary Garrett, Jr. (Rebecca) and Kenny French (Kim); and his granddaughter, Kenzley French, who was the light of his life. He also leaves behind his brother, Billy Garrett (Susie); his sisters, Lisa Burks (Ronnie), Linda Riggs (Chester), Cheryl Garrett, and Sandy Garrett; and many nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Gary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Garrett and Bertha Simpkins.
Gary was a man of many passions. He found peace on the water with a fishing pole in hand, and joy in collecting firearms and NASCAR memorabilia. He had a lifelong love for racecars and golf, and never missed a chance to cheer on his University of Kentucky Wildcats. Whether at a family gathering or a quiet day with his loyal Beagle, Cooper, Gary’s presence was steady, kind, and always genuine.
His love for life, his sense of humor, and his loyalty to those he cared for will be remembered and deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 12 from 2 PM until 8 PM and on Saturday, September 13 from 9 AM until time of the service at the Legacy Nunnelley Chapel Funeral Home, 4327 Taylor Blvd., Louisville, KY 40215. Though he has left this world, Gary’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him—and in every fish caught, race watched, club swung, and game cheered.
