It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Esther M. McKinney, age 85, who departed this life on Sept. 19, 2024. A devoted wife, mother, cherished family member, and beloved friend, Esther will be deeply missed.
Born on July 3, 1939, in Jeffersonville, Esther was known for her quick wit, unshakable opinions, and a heart as big as her personality, Esther was never one to mince words—she lived life on her terms.
In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was passionate about crafting, helping her husband rebuild antique tractors with the John Deere Tractor Club, water aerobics at the local YMCA and gardening. She found joy and solace in the simple beauty of the earth. Her home was a sanctuary of love, where family, friends, and neighbors were always welcome to sit on the back porch, chat, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings..
Esther is survived by her son Rick and his wife Sherri, her grandchildren Nolan McKinney and Miranda Morris, and Miranda’s husband David. Now reunited in heaven with the love of her life, Leroy McKinney, she leaves behind a garden of memories that will continue to bloom through those who loved her.
She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Laurena King. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Carol Chappelle and Judy Dorman.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024 at 1pm with visitation held before from 12-1pm at Legacy Funeral Center - Scott Chapel at 921 Main St. in Jeffersonville. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Esther.
May she rest in eternal peace, forever in our hearts.
