Dorothy Whitehead, 73, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026. She
was born on June 25, 1952, in Essie, Kentucky, to Vadie Collett and the late Lloyd Collett.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carson Whitehead; her father, Lloyd
Collett; and her sister, Elizabeth Hay.
She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory, including her mother, Vadie
Collett; two brothers, Russell Collett (Loretta) and Taylor Collett (Barbara); three sisters, Loshia
Mason, Mary Denham (Wayne), and Theresa Wheatbrook (Michael); as well as several nieces,
nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Dorothy was a devoted Christian and a faithful member of Beacon Missionary Baptist Church in
Charlestown, Indiana. Her faith was the foundation of her life and guided her in her love and
service to others. She especially treasured her nieces and nephews and found great joy in
spending time with her family.
A talented quilter, Dorothy enjoyed creating beautiful quilts that reflected her warmth, creativity,
and caring spirit. Her favorite color was yellow, a fitting reflection of the brightness and
kindness she brought into the lives of those around her.
Dorothy will be remembered for her strong faith, loving heart, gentle nature, and unwavering
devotion to her family and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and
loved her.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Legacy
Funeral Chapel, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Funeral services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at
Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
