Dorothy McDonald

Dorothy Mae McDonald, 95, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. She was born on May 31, 1929, in Russell Springs, KY, to the late Stanley and Susie Flatt. Dorothy was one of nine children and was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend to many.

A proud graduate of Ahrens Trade School, Dorothy dedicated her career to healthcare, serving as a healthcare administrator until her retirement. In 1948, she married the love of her life, the late Harold "Sticks" McDonald, with whom she shared 49 wonderful years of marriage. In 1979, they moved to California, where they worked together in the healthcare field for the elderly for nearly 30 years before returning to Louisville.

Dorothy had a heart of gold and was known for her kindness and generosity. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and touched the lives of many with her compassion and love. Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, six sisters, and her cherished pets, Princess, BB, Ollie, and Rebels. Dorothy is survived by her loving brother, Stanley Flatt, Jr. (Marie), several nieces and nephews, and her caring neighbors who were like family to her.

Dorothy's legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered as a woman who lived a full life, always putting others before herself and spreading warmth and joy wherever she went.

Funeral service will be at 1 pm Monday September 9th, at the Legacy Funeral Center Nunnelley Chapel, 4327 Taylor Blvd, Louisville, KY 40215, with entombment to follow in the Bethany Cemetery Mausoleum.  Visitation will be held from 10 am until time of the service Monday at the Funeral Home.
