Doris Ellen (Thompson) Brown

Doris Ellen Brown, 88, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at her home in Fairdale, Kentucky. She was born on September 28, 1934 to the late Beverly and Edith Thompson in New Albany, Indiana. Doris was devoted to her family, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren especially at times like Christmas Eve. Doris was very independent and always knew what she wanted. She lived a simple life, reading books, drinking Pepsi, and eating her peanut butter sandwiches. In her younger years, she loved to go out dancing with her husband Richard. Doris also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, hitting the slot machines, playing Bingo, and being with her sister and best friend, Marilyn. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Beverly Thompson and Edith Arnold Thompson, Doris is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Brown; son, Ronald Cook; siblings, Marilyn Jewell, Glenda Murphy, and Beverly Thompson Jr. 

Left to cherish her memory, Doris leaves behind her children, Gary Cook (Carolyn), Glen Cook, and Cheryl Franklin (Randy); siblings, James Thompson, Fritz Sheeley, and John Knee; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family.

A funeral service for Ms. Doris Ellen Brown will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at Legacy Funeral Center – Nunnelley Chapel, 4327 Taylor Blvd., Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 1 PM to 6 PM at the funeral home. Entombment at Evergreen Cemetery will follow the funeral service.
