Don S. Montgomery, 75, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on December 10, 1945 in Louisville, Kentucky to Willard and Elnore Montgomery. Don was an accomplished Navy Veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation for his years of service to our country. After his time in the military, Don became a Naval Historian and worked as a Photographic Accessionist for the Department of Defense. He loved to travel and never met a stranger. Don was a Master Model Builder and loved collecting model trains. In his spare time, Don could be found serving his church, Fern Creek Christian Church. He will be greatly and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Willard Montgomery and Elnore Williams Montgomery, Don was preceded in death by his twin sister, Donna Gish.
Left to cherish his memory, Don leaves behind his loving wife, Marta Montgomery; 2 children, Charles Embry (Lauren) and Jennifer Schroerlucke; 1 brother, Michael Montgomery (Janice); 3 grandchildren, Jacob Embry, Logan Embry, and Parker Schroerlucke; and 3 nephews, Greg Gish (Valerie), Jason Montgomery (Shannon) and Todd Montgomery.
A funeral service for Mr. Don Montgomery will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, September 10, 2021 at Legacy Funeral Center – Nunnelley Chapel, 4327 Taylor Blvd., Louisville, KY 40215. Memorial Visitation will be held from 1 PM to 3 PM, prior to the service.
