Debra Mustain Obituary

Debra Faye Mustain, age 66 of Jeffersonville, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and selfless devotion to others.

For more than twenty years, Debra served faithfully as a paralegal, bringing diligence and care to her work. Yet her true calling extended far beyond any profession. During her time at Freed-Hardeman University, she first served as a Dorm Mother and later as Housing Director, where she became a steady, comforting presence to countless students. Debra had a special place in her heart for those who were far from home, especially during the holidays. She lovingly prepared meals and opened her heart to them, creating a sense of family where it was needed most. To many, she was more than a mentor—she was a second mother.

A devoted member of Northside Church of Christ in Jeffersonville, Debra lived out her faith in both word and action. She taught Sunday School, led adult classes and spoke at organized retreats, always striving to uplift and encourage others in their walk with Christ. Her servant’s heart led her to volunteer as a camp counselor at Spring Mill Bible Camp, where she joyfully shared her faith and helped shape the lives of young people.

Debra was the heart of her home. She found great joy in cooking for her family, filling her kitchen with warmth, laughter, and song. She took pride in preparing her boys’ favorite meals—most famously her fried chicken, made with love and always requested. Her home was a place of comfort, where everyone felt welcomed, cared for, and deeply loved.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Mary Harris, and her lifelong best friend, Sherry Morris.

Debra leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory always: her devoted husband of 48 years, John Mustain; her sons, Joey (Karen) Mustain and Shane (Candice) Mustain; her parents, Harold and Bonnie Faye (Harris) Maultsby; her sisters, Pam (David) Lynch and Rhonda (Larry) Thomas; her treasured grandchildren, John Michael, Stella, & Braydon; and her dear friend, Danny Morris.

Debra’s life was a beautiful reflection of kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. She gave freely of herself, always putting others first and making the world a little brighter with every life she touched. Her love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Northside Church of Christ (2510 East 10th Street, Jeffersonville), officiated by Danny Morris.
