Deborah Kay Dowell, age 64, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025. Born on July 17, 1961, in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Samuel “Sammie” Dowell and Mattie Daugherty.
Deborah had a kind spirit and a love for the simple joys in life. She especially enjoyed playing the big bingo games each week, a pastime that brought her joy, laughter, and community. As a child, Deborah was one of the cherished Kosair kids, appearing on various posters that inspired hope and generosity across the region.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her great-niece, Phoenix Baker.
Deborah is survived by her sister, Patricia Hicks (Vance); her niece, Terra Hicks; nephew, David Hicks; great-niece, Alexis Powers; and great-nephew, Gavin Powers. Her family will remember her warmth, her gentle humor, and the love she gave so freely.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 4, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Tuesday, August 5, from 9:00 AM until the time of service at Legacy Schoppenhorst Chapel Funeral Home, 1832 West Market Street, Louisville, KY 40203. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 11:30 AM, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
Deborah will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
