David Rainwater, age 78, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, at his home, surrounded by the comfort of familiar walls and a lifetime of memories well lived.
Born in Northern Indiana, David was one of fifteen children born to the late Herbert and Evelyn Rainwater. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work, ingenuity, and perseverance, qualities that would define him throughout his life. A devoted tradesman, David was known by many as a true “Jack of All Trades.” There was little he could not fix, build, or improve, and his hands were rarely still. A perpetual tinkerer, he found joy in problem solving and took quiet pride in making things work, often turning the ordinary into something better.
David was a devoted husband to his wife, Doris Jean Rainwater. He was a father and stepfather. He is survived by his children, David Rainwater, Jr. (Bobbi), Gary Rainwater, Jimmy Rainwater, Stephanie Wingate (Mike), and Steven Watson (Alysia).
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Shelby, Haley, Kelsee, Caitlyn, Ana, Ethan, Caleb, and Taylor, as well as his nine great grandchildren. David’s legacy lives on through them in shared stories, learned skills, and the quiet lessons he passed along.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Evelyn Rainwater, and by his step-son, Dale Watson, Jr.
The family will honor David’s wish for cremation. Legacy Funeral Center of Jeffersonville has been entrusted with arrangements.
