Darlene A. Wells, 77, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026. She was born on May 10, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Darlene was a woman who lived life on her own terms. She was known for being outspoken and having absolutely no filter—you never had to wonder where you stood with her because she always spoke her mind. While her honesty was sometimes blunt, it was genuine, and those who knew her best loved her for exactly who she was.

For many years, Darlene faithfully served as a janitor at Johnsontown Elementary School, where her hard work and dedication were appreciated by students, staff, and the community.

More than anything, Darlene had a tremendous love for dogs. Throughout her life, she opened her heart and home to many beloved companions who brought her endless joy and unconditional love.

Darlene is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Wells; her cherished grandchildren, Thomas Wells, Kasey Wells, Brandi Wells, Taylor Wells, and Destiny Wells; her treasured great-grandchildren, Mariah Purcell, Khloee Wells, Jaylynn Bledsoe, Jason Bledsoe II, Kayden Wells, Grayson Wells, and Jackson Wells-Louge; her brothers, Eddie Cockeril and William Cockeril; and her beloved dogs, GG and Elsa.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Donald Wells; her beloved son, Donnie Wells; her sister, Donna Nair; and her cherished dogs, Pebbles, Tia, Zoey, and Alyssa.

Though Darlene could be tough and never hesitated to tell you exactly what she thought, she loved deeply, remained fiercely loyal to those she cared about, and left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her family and friends will forever remember her strength, her unmistakable personality, and the love she shared with both her family and the many dogs that were fortunate enough to be part of her life.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Center, 4327 Taylor Boulevard, Louisville, Kentucky 40215. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
