Christopher Scott Smith, born October 18, 1969, in San Bernardino, California, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 16, 2025. His sudden passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Chris is survived by his children: Alyssa Renae Dalton (spouse: Omar Dalton), Christopher Scott Smith II (spouse: Asyia Smith, and their children Christopher III, Chance, and Amani), Michael Tyler Smith (and his children Zoie Faith, Sabian Tyler, and Rylee Joy), and Tristan Sade Smith. He is also survived by his devoted parents, Cordell and Ada Smith, and his cherished siblings: twin sister Crystal Camille Minnis (spouse: Greg Minnis), Melinda L. Jackson (spouse: Quinton Jackson), Melissa L. Barr (spouse: Roderick Barr), and Tiffany C. Smith. Chris leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will always remember him fondly.
Chris was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Christian Smith.
A proud graduate of New Albany Senior High School in 1988, Chris excelled academically, graduated with honors, and broke records in track and field. His musical talents were evident as a percussionist in the NAHS band, where he formed a lifelong bond with his best friend and "brother," Dale Harris Jr. Chris’s love for music extended to his time at Mt. Zion Apostolic Church in New Albany, where he played drums and created cherished memories with his beloved cousins.
Chris served honorably in the United States Navy from 1989 to 1991, a testament to his dedication and service to his country. Following his military service, he embarked on a career at RCS Auto Transportation, where he worked for over 30 years. Known affectionately as "Smitty," he formed close friendships with colleagues Walt Helm and Scotty, who became like brothers to him.
Chris’s life was defined by his passions: music, traveling, playing golf, cooking, and grilling for his family. An avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Hoosiers, he brought joy and laughter to every gathering. Chris was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty to his friends and family. His love for his family was unmatched and will remain his enduring legacy.
Services to celebrate Chris’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main St, Jeffersonville, Indiana, 47130. A visitation will take place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by a special sharing of memories beginning at 6 p.m.
Chris was truly loved by too many to name and will forever be remembered as a remarkable man whose impact on the lives of others will never be forgotten.
