Cherry Deering Obituary

Cherry Mae Deering, beloved aunt, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, at Cherokee Park Rehabilitation, in Louisville, Kentucky on October 13, 2025, at the age of 98. Born on September 5, 1927, in Central City, Kentucky, Cherry lived a long, rich life rooted in faith, family, and service to others.

Cherry was a woman of quiet strength, kindness, and enduring grace. She was a proud member of Calvary Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana, where she nurtured her faith and found community for many years. Upon moving to Louisville, Kentucky, she continued her spiritual journey as a devoted member of Hill Street Baptist Church, always guided by her deep love of the Lord.

Throughout her working years, Cherry was a familiar and friendly face in the retail community. She retired from Ball Department Store and also worked at Bacon's and Ben Snyder Department Stores. Her warm smile and gentle presence made her a cherished colleague and a joy to customers.

Beyond her work, Cherry found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved fishing with her son, playing bingo, sharing quiet moments by the water and creating memories that would last a lifetime. She was a dedicated volunteer, especially passionate about serving senior citizens, always ready with a helping hand and a compassionate heart. Cherry also loved family picnics, laughter-filled gatherings, and time spent surrounded by the people she loved most.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Allie Deering and Pearl Sartor, her cherished son, James Paul Ledsinger; and her siblings, Alfred Deering, Joe Ruby, James Wells, and Anna Bell Jolley.

Left to honor her memory are her devoted nieces and nephews: Shirley Frazier, Linda Woods, Robert Jolley (Thelma), and Jacqueline Jolley Brown. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandson, Chris Berry Ledsinger (Amanda); her great-grandson, Kane Berry Ledsinger; and her great-nieces and nephews: Keith Frazier, Dr. Daveed Frazier, Andrea Bing (Alex), Kerry Jolley Little,  Ashlee Thomas (Ronald), James Jolley Jr. (Denise), Michelle Koppin and Yolanda Brandon. Her legacy continues through a host of great-great nieces and nephews who will carry forward her love and spirit.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cherokee Park Rehabilitation and Hosparus Health for the compassionate care and love they showed to Cherry.

Cherry Mae Deering lived a life of faith, resilience, and love. Her presence was a blessing to all who knew her, and her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to her family and friends.
