Carolyn Anderson Obituary

Carolyn Augusta Anderson, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026, and went home to be with her Heavenly Father, whom she faithfully served all the days of her life.

Carolyn was born in Mobile, Alabama, to the late Cleveland and Ruth Rhodes Williams. From an early age, her life was marked by faith, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Those qualities remained the foundation of her life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, and cherished friend.

A pillar of faith and love, Carolyn was the beloved Church Mother of Brighter Day Anderson Temple Church of God In Christ, where her presence and leadership were deeply woven into the fabric of the church. She served faithfully in numerous capacities, including serving as the Jurisdictional Supervisor for Department of Women Indiana Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction, Trustee Board member, President of the Missionary Circle, President of the Mother’s Board, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Usher Board, Big Sister Sunshine, and choir member. Her dedication to God’s work was evident not only within the church walls but throughout the community, as she gave selflessly of her time caring for and feeding those served by the Youth Shelter of Clark County and The Haven House.

Carolyn’s nurturing spirit extended far beyond her ministries. To her family, she answered lovingly to many names, including GiGi, Granny, Grandma, Mommy, and Momma, each one a testament to the deep bonds she shared and the generations she touched. Her home and heart were always open, and her wisdom, prayers, and gentle strength will continue to echo in the lives of all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Teresa Thurman, Sue Mocasque (Steve), Mary Stone (Melvin), and Robert Thurman; her special children, Pastor Charles “Boobie” Craft (Kenya) and Assistant Supervisor, Mother Tomekia Thomas (Louis Sr.); her special nephew, Kenneth Winburn Jr. (Deidra); special niece, Lesha Lyle (Anthony); her grandchildren, April, Amy, Christopher, Ashley, Alyssa, Arianna, Israel, Manuel, and Brevan; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and her siblings, Ella Bryant (Pete), Carrie Williams, Pastor Maureen McGill, Robert Williams (Diana), and Michael Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Superintendent George W. Anderson; brothers, Melvin Williams and Cleveland Williams, Jr.; and those she now rejoins in glory.
