Alvery Loran Amburgey, age 77 of Jeffersonville, passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026. He was the beloved son of the late Alvery and Marie (Bentley) Amburgey and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and neighbor.  Loran dedicated more than 50 years of his life to the HVAC field. Beginning his career with Heddinger & Shuck, he eventually retired from a five-decade career with Comfort & Care HVAC. He took great pride in his work and in the many friendships he made along the way.

An avid outdoorsman, Loran was happiest when he was outside. He loved fishing, playing pickleball and horseshoes, gardening, and especially golfing. He often said, “A bad day golfing beats any good day at work!” His garden was a labor of love, and he took great joy in sharing its bounty with the friends and neighbors he held so dear.  Loran also took tremendous pride in his home and yard. He kept his lawn and property absolutely impeccable and, according to those who knew him, had the nicest lot on the block. His home was a place of warmth, laughter, and love.

Loran enjoyed settling in to watch his favorite old westerns, reliving a simpler time with Gunsmoke, The Rifleman, and The Lone Ranger. A longtime member of the Jeffersonville Jay-C's, Loran also loved sports. He was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan, but nothing could get him more fired up than a UK Basketball game. His family could hear him cheering for his Wildcats all throughout the house!  More than anything, Loran cherished his family and the people he welcomed into his life. He was preceded in death by his sister, Freda Blevins, and brother, Larry Amburgey.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Janice Amburgey of Jeffersonville; daughter, Shawna Dee Wyatt; son, Steven Amburgey; grandchildren: Sarah Oliver, Ryan Swartz (Jennifer), Zachary Amburgey, and Jamie Oliver; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Raylann, Trinity, and Elick; sisters, Rosemary Burton and Sherry Armstrong; and his brothers, Jimmy Amburgey (Becky), Hassell Amburgey (Barbara), and Wayne Amburgy (Tammy); sister-in-law, Shirley Timberlake (Patrick); and a brother-in-law, Mike Cozzin (Denise).  He will also be deeply missed by his sweet kitties at home, Big Tom and Lady Bug, who will surely miss his lap naps, gentle affection, and snuggles.

Loran leaves behind a lifetime of memories—of gardens generously shared, a perfectly kept yard, fishing trips, golf games, old westerns, spirited basketball cheers, and most of all, a love for family and friends that made everyone around him feel special. His warm heart, generous spirit, and unmistakable presence will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Legacy Funeral Center – Scott Chapel (921 Main Street, Jeffersonville), officiated by Jerry Smart. Friends may visit from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
