She is survived by her siblings, Joanne Duncan (née Barbic) of Lady Lake, Florida, and William Barbic Jr. of Sharon Springs, New York; her sister-in-law, Darlene Lane of Sharon Springs, New York; her children, Kimberly (Fredrick "Ferd") Mattice (née Kovac) of Henryville, Indiana, Stefan (Anne) Kovac of Middleburgh, New York, and Rebecca Pynn of Henryville, Indiana; her grandchildren, Samantha, Alyssa, Stefan, Alix, Kassidy, Nathan and Nicholas; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Alice was born in Cobleskill, New York, raised in Dorloo, and later in Sharon Springs, New York. She spent the first half of her adult life in Sharon Springs, where she was employed at the family business: The Maples Adult Home. Alice undertook many caregiving roles for the tenants at the home while being the caretaker for her own family and friends.
During 1992-93, Alice traveled south to live in Florida. She began her career as a mental health coach at Marion-Citrus Mental Health in Ocala. She continued to be a helpful presence to society and her loved ones, caring for those in need. In her free time, she spent countless hours at breathtaking places; her favorite activities were going to the beach and basking in the sunlight. She grew a taste for golfing, finding pleasure in playing with her friends, family, and children.
In her later years, Alice helped her youngest daughter, Rebecca, raise her two sons, Nathan and Nicholas. In 2009, she moved to Henryville, Indiana, where her other daughter, Kimberly, and her family resided. She began homeschooling her grandsons in 2010, educating the two of them, through their academic years from kindergarten to twelfth grade.
Known as "Nana" by many, Alice was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and best friend to all. Her presence lit a room and her smile was contagious; those who knew her felt blessed to be around her. She cared for the well-being of others before herself, acting selflessly whenever the opportunity arose. She leaves behind an immense legacy and a family who will remember her kind acts and generous nature.
Alice chose cremation. Her wishes were to be in the dress her son, Stefan, called her beautiful in numerous times; Alice said she had never felt so flattered. A celebration of her life will be planned among the family to be held at a later date.
