Alfreda “Tygress” McGee, age 66 of Jeffersonville, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, faith, service, laughter, and generosity that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.  Born to Alfred Allen and Carlean Virginia (Reed) Stallworth, Alfreda was a woman who believed in the importance of family, education, hard work, and faith. She carried those values with her throughout her life and shared them freely with everyone around her.

Alfreda was a proud graduate of Jeffersonville High School where she broke several track records and was inducted to the Hall of Fame.  She received a full scholarship with track to attend Alabama A&M University, where she broke more records on their track team--and once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog! She loved returning to Alabama for games, especially the Magic City Classic in Birmingham. She enjoyed the fellowship, traditions, and excitement of being surrounded by her beloved alma mater. She was always ready to cheer for Alabama A&M and proudly celebrate the school that meant so much to her.

Professionally, Alfreda devoted more than thirty years of her life to the Census Bureau in Jeffersonville. Her intelligence, dedication, and vast knowledge carried her through numerous offices and job titles. There was very little Alfreda could not do. She was capable, dependable, and determined, and those who worked alongside her knew they could count on her expertise and her willingness to help.

Her faith was another cornerstone of her life. Alfreda loved attending Gilt Edge Baptist Church and St. Stephen Baptist Church, where she found joy in the music, the worship, the fellowship, and most of all, in basking in the love of the Lord. Her faith was not simply something she talked about—it was something she lived. She had a servant’s heart, and she understood what it meant to love God by loving and serving others.  And then there was Alfreda simply being Alfreda.  In quiet moments, she could be found settled in with one of her favorite Hallmark movies or happily working on a craft. She enjoyed a good game of Scrabble, too—and if you dared to play against her, you had better come prepared! Alfreda loved the challenge of the game and was always happy to teach you a thing or two.

She was also an amazing cook, but there was one creation that made her especially famous: her pound cake. Family and friends could try, but nobody could quite make it like Alfreda. Her pound cake was more than a dessert—it was one of those special tastes of home that will forever bring memories of her rushing back.

Alfreda had an especially tender heart for children. She believed deeply in the power of education and often spoke about the importance of higher learning. She wanted to find young people who needed someone to believe in them, help them, encourage them, and leave them better than she found them. She wanted their lives to reach beyond high school. She wanted them to understand the lessons, wisdom, and determination necessary to navigate the complicated roads ahead.  That was Alfreda: always thinking about how she could make someone else’s life better.  She was a true giver—of her time, her love, her wisdom, her loyalty, and her heart. She gave without needing recognition. She showed up when people needed her. She encouraged, taught, laughed, prayed, cooked, listened, and loved. Her presence was a gift, and those who received that gift will carry it with them for the rest of their lives.

Alfreda was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Allen Stallworth, and her sister, Valerie Wilson.

She leaves to cherish her memory--her precious mother, Carlena Virginia (Reed) Stallworth; loving son, Cameron McGee (Chelsi) of Clarksville; devoted daughter, Gabrielle McGee; her adoring siblings, Alfred Jerome Stallworth (Rhonda) of Fort Wayne, Rozeta Beasley (Anthony) of Fort Wayne, and Kevin Stallworth of Jeffersonville; her precious grandchildren, Tatum and Jaycelyn; and her best friends, Norman and Lou Seawright. She also leaves countless family members, friends, co-workers, church family, and loved ones whose lives were made brighter simply because Alfreda was in them.  The family extends a very special and heartfelt thank-you to Alfreda’s loving co-workers and friends who supported her and never left her side: Diane Dierking, Lennea Blythe (*step-sister), and Gloria Robinson. Your love, friendship, presence, and unwavering support meant more than words can ever express.

Alfreda’s earthly journey has come to an end, but the love she gave so freely has not.  She will live on in the laughter of her children, the smiles of her grandchildren, the lessons she taught, the young lives she encouraged, the friendships she treasured, the church services she loved, the games of Scrabble she conquered, the crafts she created, the Hallmark movies she enjoyed, and, of course, in every pound cake that will forever be compared to hers.  Most of all, Alfreda will live on in the hearts of those who knew that special kind of love she carried—the kind that made you feel seen, supported, and cared for.  She served. She gave. She encouraged. She loved.  And she left every life she touched a little better than she found it. 

Rest peacefully, Alfreda. Your work here is finished, your love remains, and your beautiful memory will never fade. Well done, thy good and faithful servant.  Alfreda will be cremated.  Family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
